If you are visiting Uganda on a business trip unable to take long Uganda safari,  you can take this 1 day Jinja tour to see a bit outside of Kampala to three main sites. 1 Day Jinja Tour is by far the best day tour from Kampala as it includes visiting a number of places and doing several activities. It is a little wonder tour which takes to the Eastern region, the adventure capital of Uganda.

Among the popular activities on this 1 day Jinja tour includes visiting the Sezibwa Falls Cultural Heritage Site to see the beautiful waterfalls and learn about preserved African traditional cultures, visit the Mabira rainforest for a trek that brings you close to nature and wildlife such as monkeys and birds, and finally, you will take a boat ride on the might River Nile in Jinja and visit the famous Source of the Nile River. This a family-friendly tour, kids will enjoy themselves very much as the adults discover the eastern outdoors.

Jinja is a town nearby Kampala that is perfect for both the adventurer, naturalist, and famous historic source of the Nile River, Jinja is now the adrenaline capital of East Africa. Where can get your fix of white-water rafting, kayaking, quad biking, and mountain biking and horse riding in a gorgeous natural setting with crumbling colonial architecture?

The River Nile’s world-famous rapids are under threat, however. In 2011 the Bujagali Hydroelectric Project buried around half of the rapids under a giant reservoir. Although the government has pledged to not further dam the river, Uganda still needs energy and so a new hydroelectric plant has been constructed called Isimba dam. Meanwhile, this has not killed the rapids completely you can enjoy the Nile’s rapids at Itanda a few kilometers off the road. Image road. Jinja community not just keep pushing to keep Jinja's tourism industry alive with offerings that have wisely begun to diversify.

Recommended  Sites And Activities To Do In Jinja;

1. Sezibwa Falls:
The amazing sezibwa falls are on your way to Jinja in Mukono district a 10 minutes’ drive off the road. According to a traditional legend says Sezibwa and his brother Mubeya were given birth by Nalongo (Tittle to a mother of twins) Nakangu Tebatesa and Salongo (Tittle to father of twins) Nsubuga Sebwanto while on her way to Buikwe district (bukunja). After the birth, Sezibwa flowed west-facing many obstacles which it overcomes hence originating its name sezibwa “I can’t be blocked” by the locals while Mubeya the twin brother flowed East. Many people come here to worship the spirits and they believe the site has supernatural powers where miracles can happen. The falls are 7 meters high, the trees are high hence creating beautiful forest scenery. You can do a little bit of rock climbing on top of the falls while you enjoy the views in the area.

2. Mabira Forest:
Mabira Rainforest is just a short distance from Kampala and equally so from Jinja. It is the perfect place to get in touch with nature in an African Rainforest in Central Uganda. Mabira Rainforest is the perfect place for an invigorating nature walk or mountain bike over the trails in the forest and beyond, for birders you can easily spend a half-day here or even a full day, breaking for lunch at the lovely Mabira Rainforest Lodge or at a lower price at Griffin Camp. Mabira Rainforest has 200 kinds of species of trees. At times you come across patches of grasslands, and in the valleys of Mabira Rainforest you will come across various papyrus swamps, there are streams and a peaceful waterfall. Mabira Forest's accessibility from Kampala makes it the perfect place for a day in an African Rainforest.

When it comes to birding, this small forest is home to more than 300 species of forest birds. With an extensive network of trails, Mabira Forest can easily be explored, especially accompanied by a guide who knows the forest, the mammals, the birds, plants and trees, and even the butterflies, medicinal plants that are found here in the rainforest of Mabira. Mabira Forest is home to bush-pigs, blue duikers, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked manga bees (a smaller species of manga bees has been discovered here). There is also the occasional leopard you will most likely not see here. Bird Species found here are the Nahan’s Francolin, Cassin’s Hawk-eagle, White-spotted Flufftail, Afep Pigeon, Grey Parrot, Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo, Black-shouldered Nightjar, Sabine’s Spinetail, Cassin’s Spinetail, Blue-throated Roller, African Dwarf-kingfisher, White-bellied Kingfisher, Forest Wood hoopoe, African Pied Hornbill, Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill, Speckled Tinkerbird, Yellow-throated Tinkerbird, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Yellow-billed Barbet, Green-breasted Pitta, African Shrike-flycatcher to name a few.

We can include it in your safari if a trip to the East of Uganda, such as Jinja is included in your safari itinerary. Mangabey Monkey Trekking in mabira forest. The Uganda Mangabey Monkey a rare species of monkeys only found in Mabira Rainforest and in a few other locations in the country as well in a small area of bordering Tanzania. There are 3 habituated groups inside of the Park and they can easily be tracked. You will see other monkeys here like the red-tailed monkeys, birds, butterflies, flowering plants, and ancient trees that have been here for centuries. The Uganda Mangabey was recently identified as a unique species. The Forest is a perfect off-of-the beaten path spot for it and it could be a good idea if you add it to the itinerary.

4. Birding in Mabira forest:
Mabira forest is home to over 300 species of birds including some rare ones like the Nahan’s francolin, Tit Hylia, Yellow and grey long bills, Purple-throated cuckoo shrikes, Illadopsises, Jameson’s wattle eyes. One day, you will be able to identify a wide variety of bird species in this small forest.

5. The Ultimate Mabira forest Nature Walk:
You can go on Nature Walks without guides here, however for the best experience in the forest we recommend that you use the resident guides that can give you the best forest experience. The Hidden Itanda Falls Are Sights and Sounds along the historic River Nile not be missed by visitors to Jinja. This is the Wild Side of the River Nile unleashed. It is the ending point of rafting, only the power of Nature unleashed. Bujagali Falls, long a tourist Destination is no more – just a few ripples – but few miles down the road – the Nile still roars at Itanda Falls. Itanda is known to kayakers and rafters from around the world as falls to avoid but to most visitors and tourists it remains one of the Hidden Pearls in the Pearl of Africa – Uganda.

Most guidebooks write about Bujagali Falls, a thing of the past since the new Bujagali Dam and Power Station was built, even most tour companies still offer visits to Bujagali Falls and in the Ugandan tradition of never turning down money. Drive down the road a few miles and you discover Itanda Falls where the Nile’s power is unleashed and you can stand in awe as you look out on the river, see Itanda Falls and hear the rushing waters of the falls roaring past you. Itanda Falls has 3 levels of rapids along with it which go up to Grade 6 from Grade. Itanda Falls is a most spectacular place to behold and the rafter, kayaker has to exercise some cautions traversing the rapids of Itanda Falls.

Itanda Falls – on the Nile in Jinja is not the most easily reached location beyond Jinja, even when you ask questions, you just might get a blank stare – it is about 27 kilometers from Jinja and the drive will take about 45 minutes in length. Not many overseas visitors, tourists have come to Itanda Falls, making it still an unspoiled area where you can experience Authentic Africa, authentic Uganda. Unlike at the source of the Nile, the way to the falls is not paved with souvenir stands and hawkers shouting at you to buy their wares.

Itanda Falls at Jinja, is still the Nile non-commercialized, the way it has been for many years. To locals, it is considered a sacred site…a “Blessed Place” where those living near the falls come to pray at the base of a tree in times of adversity such as when they need a physical miracle. Jinja without a waterfall along the Nile just would not be the same, it will take a while, but Itanda Falls will be a place along the Nile that attracts more and more visitors and another reason to enjoy Jinja on the Nile.

Still, along the river, you can have a quad bike near Itanda falls, horse ride, and kayaking.
