This 2 Days tour takes you birding in Entebbe and Mabamba Wetland in Uganda. The Mabamba wetland are renowned for hosting the rare Shoebill Stork and is famous to be blessed with a number of bird species. Mabamba Islands has grown into one of the most interesting and spectacular tourist sites for birding. Apart from Murchison Falls National Park, Mabamba is the only place rated as the best in Africa or in the world where the elusive shoebill can be easily spotted at any one time of the day.
Apart from the rare shoebill, there are many other bird species to see on this adventure!
Itinerary In Summary
Day 1: Birding in Entebbe’s UWEC and the Botanical Gardens
Day 2: Birding in Mabamba Shoebill & Search for Shoebill Storks.
Day 1: Birding in Entebbe’s UWEC & Botanical Gardens.
You will be welcomed by our representative who will transfer you to your respective place of accommodation in Entebbe. Depending on the time of arrival you might spend the afternoon at UWEC, home to captive animals and over 170 species of birds. These include 7 species of weavers, such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver, Kingfishers, Sunbirds etc. After breakfast then continue to Entebbe Botanical Gardens. Here you will have good hours of birding on the best trails around Kampala, with over 150 species of birds. Look out for the Bare faced-go away bird, Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederik Cuckoo, Great Reed Warbler, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive, Olive bellied, Red chested, superb, Copper etc Sunbirds and many more. A picnic Lunch in the gardens, relax while birding and later in the evening return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Mabamba Island & the Search for Shoebills.
Early transfer to Mabamba Swamp, 50 kms west of Kampala. On our way to the swamp you Look out for many different birds like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler, White Spotted Fluftail and Weyns Weaver. This Swamp is one of the best places to spot the exceptional Shoebill Stork. But also many other species can be found here, like the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, Jacanas, Ruffaus Bellied Heron, Squaco, Purple and Goliath Heron, the Globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow a migrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks etc. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life is by canoe and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats. Later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel or Airport to catch flight back home.

Our standard mode of transport is by road and we use 4×4 Safari Vans customized for game viewing and photography. Each safari van comes with a professionally trained driver guide and fuel for the whole safari. Our Safari vans have viewing hatches and each client is entitled to a window seat. Our Vans can take up to eight people. We also have 4×4 Super Customs very comfortable and stable on the road. These carry up to 5 people with their luggage. We also have 4×4 RAV 4 for a group of two people
UPGRADE: 4X4 LUXURY SAFARI LANDCRUISER
We have luxury latest Land cruisers each driven by professionally trained driver guides and fuel. They have pop up roofs for proper game viewing and photography. They come with a small fridge for cooling your drinking water while on safari (which is always included while IN THE VEHICLE). They have inverters for charging small gadgets such as your smart phones and cameras. They can seat five to a maximum of seven people and each client is guaranteed of a window seat.
