Holiday Vacation To Watamu Beach, Magical Kenya Wildlife and Cultural Safari Tours

Holiday Vacation  To Watamu Beach, Magical Kenya Wildlife and Cultural Safari Tours,   Things To Do In Watamu !!!

Watamu is one of the best all-round beach destinations in Kenya. Watamu Beach has it all – the coolest bars, 5-star hotels, thatched huts on the beach, whitewashed mansions, authentic Italian restaurants, and tiny shacks on stilts selling freshly caught crab. In Watamu, you can waterski on the creek, dive on the reef, and sup cocktails in a dhow. You can visit ancient Swahili ruins, ride horseback on the sand, and swim in the shallows with sharks. Watamu Beach is all the best bits of the Kenyan coast in one special place.

Featured by a blinding white-sand beach and a soft breeze, Watamu is a charming slice of coastline. The town has its own marine national park. Besides having natural endowments, and a magnificent dining scene, Watamu also makes it easy to explore the nearby Gede ruins, Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve, and the waterways of Mida Creek.

Watamu is located 105 kilometers north of Mombasa and 15 kilometers south of Malindi on the Indian Ocean Coast of Kenya, it lies on a small headland between the blue lagoon and Watamu Bay.

Watamu Beach has a distinctive coastline. Watamu’s beaches are dotted with tiny deserted islets. Sandbars rise out of the sea, offering walkways to the islands at low tide or places to bask with a cocktail at high. The soft white sand beaches are sprinkled with starfish and weeny hermit crabs.

The shoreline is festooned with palms, where, hidden within the lush bush, are houses dating back to colonial times. Thatched roofs hide affluent Kenyans lounging in pools, sipping their gin and tonics. Elsewhere, houses stand in disrepair; their walls stained black with time and salt winds, their roofs long since collapsed, the gardens full of chattering monkeys and iridescent lizards. Occasionally the serenity of the coastline is broken up by a 5* resort where pale tourists lie in the shade and sip from the coconuts that boys sell on the beach. Away from the hotels, fishing boats pull up at lunchtime and disgorge their catch: octopus, prawns, snapper, and huge crayfish.

Things to Do at Watamu:

The Shoreline of the area features white sand beaches and offshore coral formations arranged in different bays and beaches like Garoda Beach, Turtle Bay, Blue Lagoon Bay, Watamu Bay, Ocean Breeze, and Jacaranda Beach, they are protected as they are a part of Watamu Marine National Park.

1- Watamu Beach

Watamu Beach has a unique coastline. The beaches are lined with tiny deserted islands. Some sandbars offer walkways to the islands. The white sand beaches are sprinkled with hermit crabs, starfish, and more. The long beach has a shallow reef where you can enjoy snorkeling, and see rays, octopus, deals and colorful fish.

2- Mida Creek & Watamu Marine Park:

At the southern end of Watamu Beach lies Mida Creek and Watamu Marine Park. It is a quiet place of weaverbirds, crayfish, and black kites, where the village life remains little unchanged from this century to the net. The marine park is a 90-mile stretch of ocean where coral reefs form the backbone.

The park has 1000 different species of fish including whale sharks, manta rays, dugongs and olives, and Ridley and Hawksbill turtles. It is considered one of the best parks for snorkeling and diving on the coast of East Africa, and it is also rated as the third best beach in Africa, the Park has crystal clear water and silver sand beaches.

3- Watamu Turtle Watch:

This organization protects approximately 50 green turtles that lay eggs on Watamu Beach. The center educates the local community about the fragile nature of sea turtles. It is worth the visit. Visitors can see turtles being treated for injury or illness and also learn about these beautiful creatures.

4- Papa Remo Beach Watamu:

Walk over the headline to the tiny crescent moon bay of Watamu Beach with its private houses and bay of shallow safe water. Over another headland and gaze across the incredible Papa Remo beach. Here are small islets that you can walk out to at low tide and a curved bay filled with shimmering sandbars.

Out beyond the islands that protect the shoreline, the water deepens and waves crash. Giant red crabs scurry over rocks as moray eels poke their noses out from hidden caves. A bay made for snorkeling and wallowing in the shallows with a glass of wine.

5- Bio-Ken Snake Farm and Laboratory:

It is one of the most renowned snake research centers in the world. Bio-ken acts as an emergency service for snake bite victims throughout the region. Guided tours are available in the center. You will get introduced to deadly beauties such as the black mamba, the black spitting cobra, the puff adder, the horned viper, and more.

6- Visit Gede Ruins:

A 13th-century Swahili settlement that was rapidly abandoned in the 16th century. No one knows why the villagers left so suddenly. What is unusual about Gede is that no records of the town were kept and it was left in the jungle and hidden from the world until its rediscovery in the 20th century. Crumbling ruins and jungle trails lead through a world filled with monkeys, birds, and butterflies. An amazing chance to gain insight into a forgotten piece of history.

How to get to Watamu Beach:

Local flights fly into Malindi, which is the nearest airport, and fly several times a day from around 70 USD. Flying from Nairobi to Mombasa is cheaper approx 50 USD, but you will need to take a two-hour taxi journey.

The SGR Train travels from Nairobi to Mombasa twice a day. The morning train takes 6 hours. International flights fly into Mombasa or the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.

Best Time to Visit:

The best time to visit Watamu is all year round. However, it is better to visit the town from July to October, as this is the longest dry season when the coast is cool and the skies are clear and sunny.
