Day 6 – Morning Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer To Gisenyi on Lake Kivu.
Today after breakfast, we transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing about the golden monkey trekking. Golden monkeys are interesting primates that reside in the Virunga regions of Congo, volcanoes of Rwanda and Mgahinga of Rwanda. The golden monkeys are generally more active than the gorillas, therefore, making it an active tour. This requires that for great photos you will continuously follow them as they forage for food especially the delicious bamboo shoots.

Sometimes they are seen getting into the surrounding gardens for potatoes. However, to note is that they are generally not located too far so the trek to their habitat is much more manageable than some of the gorilla families. You can carry packed lunch but usually, the trek lasts a few minutes and you are able to return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch the driver guide will transfer you to Gisenyi on Lake Kivu- the side of Rwanda, this lake is shared by Rwanda and Congo, while here you either opt to have a boat ride to the island and visit the local community as we plan our next day transfer to Congo.

In the morning after breakfast, you will continue with the hike to top of one of the most active and violent volcanoes on the Continent with the world’s most fluid and largest lava lake. Nyiragongo Volcano is located in the east of DRC, around 19 km from Goma, and is the most active volcano in the world. In 1997 and 2002, flows of very liquid lava broke out from cracks in the volcanic slopes as lava flowed at a terrific speed killing scores of people and displacing hundreds of thousands in the town of Goma. The 4-5 hour hike through lush rainforest will climax with a fascinating view of this lava lake as you chill out and then slop down to transfer to Goma.

Days 12– Kigali City Tour and Fly Back Home.
The Kigali city tour offers you an authentic outlook of Kigali which hosts some of the “thousand hills” in Rwanda. Kigali is the capital city of Rwanda and the country’s vibrant commercial center with all year-round moderate climate allowing you to visit any time of the year. It is one of the cleanest and safest of Africa’s cities attracting numerous visitors and investors yearly. The Kigali city tour takes you to the major historical and cultural sites of Rwanda. You will visit Kandt's house or museum of natural history where Dr. Richard Kandt the first German colonial resident of Rwanda resided. His residence at the base of Mount Jali and Mount Kigali in the heart of the city is now the Natural History Museum in honor of his work and is one of the stops on the tour.

This can take about 1 hour in total depending on how you engage the museum guide about what you are learning about Kigali and Rwanda in general. Genocide-memorial-in-Kigali we precede with the guided tour to the fast-growing neighborhoods of Kigali that are changing the face of the city. There is an opportunity to visit the presidential museum which is the residence of two of the former Presidents of Rwanda; here you will have an opportunity to learn a bit about the political history of Rwanda. We drive through the older commercial and residential areas with a major stop at the Kigali genocide memorial site commemorating the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.

We have opportunities to visit the craft centers where you are able to purchase souvenirs from your stay in Rwanda in turn supporting families of the women involved in making the items. Lunch will be at a local restaurant where you will have a taste of Rwandan traditional food. You are free to choose a cosmopolitan restaurant for a more diverse menu.
