Detailed 10-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali (Rwanda)

Arrival at Kigali International Airport.

Day 2: Kigali → Bukavu (DR Congo)

  • Drive south via the Rwanda countryside
  • Stopovers:
    • Butare National Museum
    • Nyanza King’s Palace
  • Visit Rwanda's cultural and historical sites
  • Continue via the Lake Kivu scenic route
  • Cross into DR Congo → arrive in Bukavu
  • Overnight at the Bukavu hotel

Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trek – Kahuzi Biega

Early morning transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park

  • Briefing at park headquarters
  • Trek eastern lowland gorillas
  • Observe gorilla families for 1 hour
  • Photography & wildlife interaction
  • Return to the lodge in Bukavu

Day 4: Bukavu → Goma (Lake Kivu Boat Transfer)

  • Morning transfer by speed boat across Lake Kivu
  • Scenic 3–4 hour journey

Day 5: Goma → Virunga National Park

Day 7: Leisure Day in Virunga

Day 8: Mount Nyiragongo Hike

Full-day adventure to Mount Nyiragongo

  • Morning briefing at Kibati Ranger Post
  • Begin volcano ascent (4–6 hours hike)
  • Arrive at crater rim shelters
  • View the active lava lake at night
  • Overnight at Summit Cabins

Day 9: Descend Nyiragongo → Lake Kivu

  • Morning descent (approx. 4 hours)
  • Transfer back to Goma
  • Continue to Lake Kivu

Day 10: Departure
