Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & City Tour – Transfer to Congo

Arrive at Kigali International Airport and meet your safari guide. Begin your Kigali city tour, including:

  • Kigali Genocide Memorial
  • Local markets and craft centers
  • Former Presidential Palace Museum

After lunch, drive through Rwanda’s scenic hills to the Goma border crossing into Congo. After immigration clearance, meet the Virunga park staff and transfer to your lodge.

Overnight: Kibumba Tented Camp (or similar)

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

Early morning briefing before entering the rainforest for gorilla trekking in Virunga.

Trekking may take 1–3 hours, depending on gorilla movement. Once located, you will spend one magical hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat.

Afternoon relaxation or optional visit to the Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage Centre (home to rescued mountain gorillas).

Overnight: Kibumba Tented Camp

Day 3: Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hike

Early breakfast and transfer to the Nyiragongo starting point.

Begin the ascent of Mount Nyiragongo, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. The hike takes 4–6 hours through rainforest and volcanic slopes.

At the summit, enjoy:

  • Panoramic views ofthe  Virunga ranges
  • Views into Rwanda, Uganda & Congo landscapes
  • The world-famous lava lake (boiling magma crater)

Dinner and overnight at Summit Cabins inside the volcano crater rim.

Day 4: Descend & Return to Kigali

Early morning descent from the volcano (approx. 3–4 hours). Transfer back to the Goma border, clear immigration, and re-enter Rwanda.

Drive back to Kigali for airport drop-off or hotel transfer.

Dinner and overnight at Kibumba Tented Camp
